    Itinerary:

6 Days Desert Tour from Agadir to Merzouga

Day 1: Agadir to Ouarzazate via Taroudant and Taliouine

We begin our 6 days desert tour from Agadir with a morning departure from your accommodation. Leaving the Atlantic coast behind, we travel inland toward Taroudant, where historic walls surround a lively medina.

Depending on the departure time, we pause for a short walk or a refreshment stop before continuing east. Taroudant introduces a different rhythm from coastal Agadir, with everyday market activity, traditional shops, and views of the surrounding countryside.

Our journey continues through Taliouine, a town associated with saffron cultivation. The landscapes gradually become drier and more mountainous as we cross southern Morocco. We make suitable stops for photographs, lunch, and breaks throughout this substantial driving day.

By late afternoon or evening, we reach Ouarzazate. After checking into our accommodation, we have time to relax before the next stage of the journey.

Overnight: Hotel or riad in Ouarzazate.

Day 2: Ouarzazate to the Dades Valley via Skoura and the Valley of Roses

After breakfast, we leave Ouarzazate and travel toward Skoura, an oasis landscape known for its palm groves and traditional earthen architecture. Here, cultivated plots and historic kasbahs offer insight into the relationship between water, agriculture, and settlement in southern Morocco.

We can arrange a visit to a kasbah, such as Amridil, according to opening arrangements and the agreed itinerary. Exploring these buildings adds context to the fortified architecture we encounter throughout the tour.

We then continue toward Kelaat M’Gouna and the Valley of Roses. Rose flowering is seasonal, but the valley’s villages, agricultural scenery, and rose-product shops provide interest throughout the year.

In the afternoon, we enter the Dades Valley, where rocky slopes rise above cultivated land and small settlements. We follow scenic stretches of the valley road, stopping at suitable viewpoints and allowing time for a short walk when conditions permit.

Overnight: Hotel or guesthouse in the Dades Valley.

Day 3: Dades Valley to Merzouga via Todra Gorge

We begin the day with breakfast before continuing toward Tinghir and Todra Gorge. Along the approach, palm groves and villages occupy the valley floor beneath increasingly dramatic rock formations.

At the gorge, we stop to walk through an accessible section and appreciate the towering limestone walls. This provides a welcome opportunity to stretch our legs before continuing toward the Sahara.

Our route then leads through a succession of towns and increasingly open landscapes toward Merzouga. As we approach, the dunes of Erg Chebbi become the focus of the horizon.

Later in the afternoon, we prepare for a camel trek in Merzouga, timed around sunset whenever arrival time and weather allow. Travelling into the dunes offers a slower perspective on the desert, with opportunities to pause and enjoy the changing light.

Guests who prefer a vehicle transfer can request a 4×4 alternative when arranging the tour. At camp, we settle into our tent and enjoy dinner. Depending on the camp programme and conditions, the evening may include local music and time beneath the desert sky.

    Overnight: Desert camp in Merzouga.

Day 4: Merzouga Desert Exploration and Khamlia Village

An early start gives us the opportunity to watch sunrise over the dunes before breakfast. We then spend the day discovering the wider Merzouga desert region, with activities arranged around the season and local conditions.

Our exploration may include a visit to Khamlia, where we can enjoy a locally hosted musical performance and learn about the village’s cultural traditions. We also travel through contrasting desert scenery, from sandy stretches to stony plains.

Where appropriate and arranged in advance, we may visit a local family for tea. Such visits depend on the hosts’ availability and willingness to welcome guests.

The afternoon offers time to relax at our accommodation or enjoy an optional activity. Quad biking and buggy excursions can be arranged at additional cost, while those seeking a quieter experience can take a short walk near the dunes or enjoy the desert views.

Spending this additional night in Merzouga gives the tour a more balanced pace and allows us to experience the region beyond an overnight stop.

Overnight: Hotel or riad near the Merzouga dunes.

Day 5: Merzouga to Ouarzazate via Rissani, Alnif, and Agdz

After breakfast, we leave Merzouga and begin our journey west. Our first stop may be Rissani, where a market visit can be included when the day’s activity and our schedule make it worthwhile.

We continue through Alnif, crossing broad desert landscapes framed by rocky hills and scattered settlements. This is another substantial travelling day, so we allow for regular breaks and a lunch stop along the route.

As we approach Agdz, the scenery changes again. Palm groves and traditional villages mark the Draa Valley, creating a striking contrast with the arid landscapes crossed earlier.

We stop at suitable viewpoints before continuing to Ouarzazate. Returning here positions us for a final day through Ait Ben Haddou and the High Atlas without attempting the entire Merzouga-to-Marrakech journey in one day.

Overnight: Hotel or riad in Ouarzazate.

Day 6: Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou

Our final day begins with breakfast before we travel toward Ait Ben Haddou. This historic fortified settlement is one of the architectural highlights of our Agadir to Marrakech desert tour.

We allow time to explore its passageways and admire the earthen buildings. The walk includes uneven ground and uphill sections, so comfortable footwear is useful. Guests who prefer a shorter visit can enjoy views from the lower areas.

After the visit, we continue through the High Atlas Mountains, following the road across the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The journey offers mountain scenery, hillside villages, and opportunities for photographs at safe stopping places.

We reach Marrakech later in the day, with arrival depending on traffic, weather, and the duration of our stops. Our 6 days desert tour from Agadir to Merzouga ending in Marrakech concludes with drop-off at your accommodation or the nearest accessible point.
